Frequently asked
The questions shops ask before they move their book across, and the ones they ask in the first week after.
Getting started
Do I need the Android app, or can I work in a browser?
Either. The web portal runs on any counter PC and does everything the app does; the Android app is for taking pledges and payments away from the desk. Both work off the same books, so a loan written on the phone is on the PC immediately.
I already have a paper register. Do I have to type it all in?
No. Most shops start by writing only new pledges in PawnEasy Pro and letting the old register run down as those loans are redeemed. If you would rather bring the live loans across, add them as ordinary pledges dated when they were written — the interest then accrues correctly from that date.
How long does setting up take?
An afternoon. Create the business, set today's gold rate, add your lockers and your staff, and you can write the first pledge. The getting started guide walks through it in order.
Which languages does it speak?
English, Tamil and Hindi throughout the app and the portal, switchable per person — the clerk can work in Tamil while the accountant works in English. Receipts print in English or Tamil.
Money and interest
Can I change an interest scheme after loans have been written on it?
Yes, safely. Every loan takes its own frozen copy of the terms it was written on, so editing a scheme changes future pledges only. A loan already on the books cannot move by a rupee.
How is a part payment split?
Penalty first, then interest, then principal — the order the trade uses. The split is shown before you accept the money, and it is printed on the receipt, so the customer can see where their payment went.
What if I take a payment by mistake?
Reverse it. A payment is never quietly edited or deleted: the reversal is recorded with a reason, both entries stay in the daybook, and the loan returns to what it was. That is what makes the book worth trusting a year later.
Can I give a customer a discount when they close?
Yes. Enter it in the discount field on the redemption screen. It is recorded as interest forgiven rather than as cash you never received, so your collection figures stay honest.
Gold and the strongroom
Whose gold rate does it use?
Yours. You publish the day's rate per karat each morning, and every pledge taken that day is valued against it. Correcting today's rate never rewrites a loan already written — that loan keeps the rate it was valued at.
Can it track gold kept in a bank locker?
Yes. A storage location is a locker on your premises, a bank locker or a third-party custodian, and for the last two you record who holds it and how to reach them. Articles can be moved between locations, and the move is on the custody trail.
What if I have not set up my lockers yet?
You can still lend. Articles taken in without a place recorded show on the storage page as unplaced, so you can put them away properly later instead of the shop being blocked at the counter.
Reminders and customers
Do the WhatsApp reminders come from my own number?
Yes. You connect your shop's own WhatsApp Business account, so customers see your shop, and the messages are billed to you rather than to us. A clerk can also forward a prepared reminder straight from their own handset.
Can I change what the reminders say?
Every message is editable, with placeholders for the customer name, the amount and the loan number. See the reminders guide.
Is customer identity information safe?
Aadhaar and PAN numbers are encrypted before they are stored and are never shown in full again — only the last four digits, and only to staff whose role permits it. Nobody at PawnEasy Pro can read them either.
Practical matters
Does it work when the internet is down?
The app needs a connection to write to your books, because the books live on the server where your other devices and your accountant can reach them. On a weak connection it retries rather than losing what you typed. If your shop is often offline, keep a hotspot handy — a pledge takes only a few seconds of network.
Who can see what?
Four roles: owner, manager, accounts and counter staff. The counter takes pledges and payments; accounts sees payments, reports and customer records but writes no new loans; a manager does everything except billing. Every entry keeps the name of who made it.
What happens to my data if I stop subscribing?
Nothing is deleted. Your books become read-only — you keep every record and can still look anything up. Renewing restores writing straight away.
Can I get my data out?
Yes. Reports export to CSV, which opens in Excel or in your accountant's software, and every receipt is a PDF you can save. It is your book; it should be portable.
